Today we announced to the community that Biomed Badass has a new look. I’m excited to share this update with you and explain why we made the changes…
So what’s changed?
We’ve updated the home page to improve navigation for our readers. The aim is to help you find helpful resources on the site. A couple of highlights:
1. Categorised blog posts
We’ve now categorised all blog posts to help you find the information you need more easily. All posts are now assorted into at least one of 4 categories depending on the information you’re searching for:
- Career options: This information is for those of you who are considering your career options. And are wondering if you want to stay in academia or leave, or would like to leave, but are unsure of your options. This information focuses on helping you consider whether an academic career is for you or not, evaluating your career options and ideas about non-academic careers
- Academic careers: This information is for those of you who are considering an academic career and wish to know more about life as an academic/aspiring academic, and how to obtain a faculty level post
- Non-academic careers: This is for those of you who have decided you would like to leave academia, but are trying to make sense of the plethora of information out there on non-academic careers. This section also provides tips on how to make a seamless transition from academia to other sectors
- Job applications: This information is for those of you who thinking of and/or are currently applying for jobs (academic or non-academic). If you’ve got an application to prepare, an interview soon or an offer to negotiate, you can find tips and advice in this section to help
2. Integrated forum
We’ve plugged in an integrated forum page onto the site to provide a private community discussion group that focuses on supporting career development both inside and outside academia.
Previously our community discussion group was provided through the LinkedIn platform, but we shall be retiring that group shortly due to limitations imposed through LinkedIn group pages (namely issues with user anonymity and lack of notifications to ongoing conversations).
The remit and rules of the new forum remain the same, but users will need to register to gain access to the forum page in order to provide a username to participate in discussions. This allows users to retain anonymity within the community if they wish, when asking questions and participating in discussion threads.
In summary:
- It’s the same Biomed Badass supporting your career success, but with a new layout providing improved access to find the information you need, and with more space to grow…
What you think of the new layout? Helpful? Better? Worse? Anything missing? Any suggestions for further improvements? Looking forward to your feedback!
