Learning about new scientific breakthroughs and discoveries was what inspired me to train as a scientist in the first place.
When science is communicated effectively it brings forward understanding, collaboration, and innovation.
The pharma industry knows the importance of communicating the relevance and impact of their drugs for patients, and employs communications professionals to handle this work.
These communications professionals are called Medical Writers.
If you have an interest in learning about medical innovations and helping them get delivered to patients, a career in medical writing might be for you.
But how can you know this?
The most effective way is to talk to Medical Writers. By conducting information interviews with other professionals, you will discover if a particular career path is right for you, and if it is, learn how to present yourself as a credible candidate in job applications.
If you’re considering medical writing as a career, you’ll certainly want to talk to other Medical Writers to learn more through informational interviews.
To help you feel more prepared for informational interviews with medical writers, I have invited another medical writer (Vera Chan – host of the YT channel; PhD Coffee Time: https://www.youtube.com/phdcoffeetime) to share her experience and motivation of transitioning into Medical Writing.
Vera’s success story of breaking into medical writing reminds me of my own journey 4 years ago. I hope our stories amplify and continue to help many successful transitioning stories.).
In this video, you will find out:
- How networking aided both of our career transitions from academia to medical writing
- Our experiences of what it’s like to work as medical writers
- Why Medical Writing is an empowering career for women and minorities in science
Huge thanks to Vera for being my guest on this episode!
