About

Biomed Badass is created by a 40 something cell biologist who has over 15 years of experience as a biomedical researcher in the cancer field and has been running an academic research lab in the UK since 2011. Recently this biomedical badass decided on a career move to the commercial sector in a role that increases the direct impact they have on improving patient care.

This new position is permanent, better paid than the academic post, has a clearly defined path for on-going career progression and retains aspects of the former academic role that were enjoyed the most – data analysis, scientific writing and project management.

Biomed Badass supports biomedical researchers: Biomedical researchers constitute a highly skilled workforce, who are superb in numeracy, writing, problem-solving, data analysis and (increasing also) programming skills. Overall they represent a strong talent pool for both academic and commercial activities. Life as an academic researcher can be full of incredibly exciting and rewarding experiences, but can also be challenging. Ever limiting resources can leave some academics feeling constrained; time poor and restricted by budgets. However, academia is only one potential career path for biomedical researchers.

Finding suitable career options once you graduate and/or once you’ve decided to leave the academic setting can feel daunting. Identifying roles that provide you with a fulfilling career takes time and skills are required to successfully navigate this transition. This period of decision making and transition can be an anxiety-ridden experience. Biomed Badass is driven to help biomedical researchers explore the variety of professional roles open to them, aid in finding the right path and support them in excelling in their chosen industry (academic or non-academic). The aim of Biomed Badass is to promote the potential positives of all options available to biomedical researchers and neutralise any negativity that can arise from exploring post-academic careers.

Biomed Badass Mission Statement: To help and inspire biomedical researchers to build a professional profile that enhances career development for improved success and well-being
